Founded in 2011, Skip Model Designs began as the dream of hobbyist Robbie Skipton, with a passion for designing and producing giant-scale model aircraft. The company quickly earned a reputation for custom-built kits, specialized accessories, and graphics, particularly known for its large Pitts Challengers.
A Challenging Pause
In 2019, the global COVID-19 pandemic brought unexpected challenges. Shipping delays, material shortages, and rising production costs made kit manufacturing unsustainable. Unfortunately, this led to the closure of Skip Model Designs.
A New Chapter
In 2020, Australian modeler Lee Hodges reached out to Robbie to discuss all things Pitts Challenger. What began as a conversation soon developed into a strong friendship based on a shared passion for RC aircraft, CAD design, and innovation in model building.
Despite being in different countries—Australia and the UK—the time zone difference turned out to be a strength. With 24/7 availability, Skip Model Designs is now able to better serve customers around the globe.
The Rebirth: Skip Model Designs (International)
In 2022, Robbie and Lee joined forces to relaunch Skip Model Designs (International) with a refreshed vision and updated design philosophy. Together, they began redeveloping classic models, introducing modern build techniques to improve quality, simplicity, and overall experience.
Our models are engineered using top-tier software like SolidWorks, Fusion 360, and Adobe Illustrator, and are laser/CNC cut from premium European-grade woods. Designs focus on ease of build, self-aligning parts, and precision fit, enabling builders—from novices to seasoned pros—to confidently assemble a straight, true, and high-performing model.
